  • Spotlight Jazz with Jeff Stockham

Jeff Stockham on Trumpet and French Horn
    February 5, 2020

    with the Nick DeCarlis Quartet
    6:30 - 9:30pm

    Jazz on French Horn?

We know Jeff Stockham can play the trumpet! But when was the last time you heard jazz played on a French horn? Never? Well, here’s your chance.

Jeff is one of the few musicians in the world who plays jazz on French horn. He was a Featured Artist at the 2016 International Horn Symposium at Ithaca College, performing classic jazz that utilized French horn, and was a Featured Artist at the 2018 Mid-South Horn Workshop. He plays trumpet and French horn in Thelonius Monk Jr.’s “Monk on Monk” big band, with which he has toured Europe, Israel, and the United States.

From Civil War-era recreation bands to hard be-bop and everything in-between (like his “Stock Market Swing Orchestra” big band), Jeff does it all, and very well indeed. We’re fortunate that Jeff makes a swing through Florida every winter, making time to stop in Gainesville—we really look forward to doing our “two-horn” gigs (the first was a Gainesville Friends of Jazz concert, “Double Take,” in 2005). Jeff is well-known to New York music fans. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music and a veteran of the renowned Eastman Jazz Ensemble, his performance credits read like a Who’s Who of the upstate New York music scene.

Last month our Spotlight Series evening was packed, so make your reservations now!
